About this event
The annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race will be Thursday, Oct 15. The Schooners will start near Annapolis at noon and head south towards Norfolk. They should pass the mouth of the Patuxent River anytime between 4:30 and 7:00 pm, depending on wind, and are likely to be quite spread out by the time they get here.
We will depart West Basin around 1:15, head out to the bay, and turn north to watch for them. When spotted (or when we run out of time) we'll turn around and head for home. They should sail past us on the way back, offering some excellent views of some of the grandest sailing vessels on the bay, under sail.
Bring boat-appropriate food to share, and your favorite beverages for yourself. Water, ice, and Gatorade will be provided. Everyone welcome, up to 3 guests per registered club member.
Sailing conditions are often outstanding this time of year, and watching the Schooner Race from the yawls has made for some great sailing trips in the past.
